Tommie
R. Dahlmann, ND(US), NMD(EU), CEDS, LCDC, AAC is a
Naturopathic Doctor, European Union accredited Natural
Medicine Doctor, certified eating disorders specialist,
Texas-licensed Advanced Addictions Counselor, and
Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug
Counselor by The International Certification & Reciprocity
Consortium.
She began counseling in 1976 and formally became a
naturopathic doctor in 2001.
Dr. Dahlmann has traveled the world
studying alternative methods of treatment, healing through
nutrition and other naturopathic modalities. Years ago she
started helping people understand the physical as well as
the psychological aspects of their dis-ease. She feels the
patient must have the nutritional (physiological/metabolic)
foundation to be able to make the psychological changes they
want. She stresses, "We are what we eat and we are what we
think."
Dr. Dahlmann has instituted programs
and techniques that allow patients to change thought
patterns and quickly change their beliefs without bringing
up historical material that may be overwhelming and thus
block or impair the healing process. She tells patients “if
your conscious mind is saying one thing and your
sub-conscious is saying another, -- Houston, we have a problem here”.
Her methods draw on the often unrecognized resourcefulness
and creativity of patients to enable their personal
understanding and make the changes wanted. She also
helps patients understand “what you think is what you get”
and teaches easy, fast ways of discovering negative beliefs
that get in the way of growth and healing, and keep us in
physical and mental pain. “Our mind is our
servant, not our master.”
In the 70’s Dr. Dahlmann was the
executive director of San Antonio Turning Point, a
drug/alcohol out-patient treatment program for adolescents
and their families. She did interventions and
intervention training for La Hacienda, an in-patient
treatment program. She established and directed the
San Antonio
aftercare office for
Schick
Shadel
Hospitals, then a national
treatment organization specializing in the diseases of
addiction that was headed by some doctors that were doing
some of the first good research. In the early 80’s she
reorganized and developed treatment programs, and was
executive director of The Alpha House, a halfway house for
women with alcohol/drug problems. She went into private
practice in 1984 and soon after, established Dahlmann and
Associates, one of the first wellness centers in
San Antonio, Texas. The center treated body, mind
and spirit, and was active in research with Dr. Kenneth Blum
through the Division of Addictive Diseases in the Department
of Pharmacology of The University of Texas Health Science
Center at San Antonio, looking at the physical reasons,
causes and treatments for addictions. At one time
Dahlmann and Associates offered specialized services in various fields
of counseling, plus rolfing, massage therapy, and physical
exams. As her personal life demanded more time she cut
back her practice to just seeing a few individuals and doing
a few workshops and trainings yearly. Taking more time for
her passion for learning and travel.
Since supposedly retiring in 2003, she
and her husband have traveled and taught and just enjoyed
the freedom to go and work wherever they are asked.
Having lived and worked in Poland most of 2007 she says it is
very rewarding being where I can use my naturopathic skills
to their fullest and understand and speak the language.
Although Dr. Dahlmann leads workshops on many topics for
both professional and lay participants and provides
consulting for businesses, she truly enjoys working one on
one or with small groups. She and
her husband have established a practice in Tulsa: the
European
Natural
Health
Centers, and are really
enjoying this adventure. “Whenever God opens a door
they walk through and are usually amazed and delighted with
what awaits us. We get to meet wonderful people and
use the knowledge we have accumulated”. Her
present passion is developing and supporting others that
want to join The Empowered.
