Biographical Sketch
Tommie Dahlmann, ND(US), NMD(EU), LCDC, AAC, CEDS, is a licensed and
board-certified addictions counselor and a certified eating disorders specialist
with over thirty years of experience and a naturopathic doctor. She went into
private practice in 1984 and soon after, established Dahlmann and Associates,
one of the first wellness centers in San Antonio, Texas. The center treated
body, mind and spirit, and was active in research through the Division of
Addictive Diseases in the Department of Pharmacology of The University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio looking at the physical reasons, causes and
treatments. In the fall of 1991 she closed Dahlmann and Associates, Inc. and
went into semi-retirement due to her late husband’s ill health. Since 1960s,
Tommie has traveled the world studying alternative methods of treatment, healing
through nutrition and other naturopathic modalities and what she refers to as
“common sense counseling”.
Tommie Dahlmann was the executive director of San Antonio Turning
Point, a drug/alcohol out-patient treatment program for adolescents and their
families. She did interventions and intervention training for La Hacienda, an
in-patient treatment program. She established and directed the San Antonio
aftercare office for Schick Shadel Hospitals, a national treatment organization
specializing in the diseases of addiction. She reorganized and developed the
treatment programs, and was executive director of The Alpha House, a halfway
house for women with alcohol/drug problems.
Tommie Dahlmann has instituted programs and techniques that
allow clients to change behavior patterns and quickly reprogram their beliefs
without bringing up historical material that may be overwhelming and thus block
or impair the healing process. She tells clients, “if your conscious mind is
saying one thing and your sub-conscious is saying another, -- Houston, we have a
problem here”. Her common sense methods draw on the often unrecognized
resourcefulness and creativity of her clients to enable their personal
understanding and change. She also helps her clients understand what she calls
“conscious-evolution”. “What you think is what you get!” Conscious-evolution
is learning to focus thoughts and emotions on what is desired in life and
creating what is wanted instead of focusing on fears and creating what is not
wanted.
She is now helping people understand the physical as well
as the psychological aspects of their dis-ease. Tommie feels the client must
have the nutritional (physiological/metabolic) foundation to be able to make the
psychological changes they want. She leads workshops on many topics for both
professional and lay participants and provides consulting for businesses.
Tommie was remarried in 1997 to a medical scientist/ naturopath, “all around
wonderful man” that came with three sons whom she calls “three gifts from God”.
She found herself with a stepson just 50 days younger than her oldest grandson
and would have given anything to have known “Becoming a Love and Logic
Parent®”.
She feels the tools that this program teaches are needed so badly that she is
coming out of retirement to become an independent facilitator and help spread
the word and give other parents “a track to run on”.
